According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 60 million people live in rural areas and it has been well documented that these Americans face specific challenges to accessing, utilizing, and paying for quality healthcare. Despite 20% of Americans living in rural areas, only 10% of the nation’s physicians practice in rural areas, with access to and availability of mental health specialists, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, and social workers significantly lacking. Integrating mental and medical health in these rural areas has been a focus of many states to provide access and health education to providers and patients. It is critical that best practices implemented throughout the nation are shared among clinicians so that all providers can collaborate and improve their knowledge and performance, gain insights to the latest evidence, and provide optimal care services to patients and their families. Evolving technology has provided new opportunities to provide access to services and address barriers presented to patients and physicians practicing in remote rural communities. As technology improves, costs decrease and access increases—these forces help to create opportunities for increased collaborative care management. This neuroscienceCME Webcast will present key insights to better integrate primary care and mental health services, and address the unique challenges and performance gaps identified in rural populations.

Does having a seizure mean epilepsy, or is it an isolated neurological event? Failure to recognize diagnostic uncertainty between the epilepsies and non-epileptic events may be a factor in high rates of misdiagnosis. Many patients who have been misdiagnosed as having epilepsy have had previous EEGs interpreted as epileptiform that contributed to the misdiagnosis of epilepsy. Patients are often faced with the need to tolerate complex cocktails of medications over long periods of time causing side effects of these chronic medications to be of concern for both physicians and their patients. Pharmacologic management of patients with epilepsy is one of the greatest unmet needs of the disease. It is important that clinicians are aware of the evidence for current and emerging therapies so they can individualize care of their patients. There is no real "Gold Standard" of guidelines for improving diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, but clinicians need to be aware of the most recent guidelines and how they can incorporate them in their practice. In this neuroscienceCME webcast, the experts will explore these clinical challenges of managing patients with epilepsy, and will provide insights and strategies for the improvement of patient care.
neuroscienceCME - Epilepsy in the New Millennium: Emerging Treatments and Guidelines for Effective Diagnosis and Disease Management
A two-part CME podcast program focusing on treating postmenopausal
women who have osteoporosis or who are at risk for this condition.
Advances in pharmacologic research have broadened the options for the
prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Optimum use
of these medications depends on patient surveillance that allows early
identification of those who are at risk for or who have developed
postmenopausal bone loss. Use of the FRAX assessment tool can guide
both diagnostic workup and therapeutic choices. Keeping abreast of
important clinical studies regarding the appropriate use of prevention
and diagnostic strategies as well as new and emerging medications for
osteoporosis prevention and treatment is essential for all clinicians
who treat women who have or are at risk for postmenopausal
osteoporosis. This podcast provides an overview of essential
information on the early identification, diagnosis, and treatment of
women at risk for or affected by postmenopausal osteoporosis

Martin Archer and Greg Foot are scientists of the MTV generation. In their regular podcast, Droppin’ Science, they present the most interesting, weird, cool and quirky bits of the week’s science & tech, all bundled up with plenty of banter and some heavy production.
The pod’s crammed full of regular features with Martin & Greg trying to humorously condense the most complicated scientific concepts into less than 5 seconds, heading out on the street to pose some quite frankly stupid science questions to the public, dissing the science & tech of the latest Hollywood blockbusters and trying to sneak some pseudobollocks past each other.
Plus, the whole thing is backed by some banging tunes so your fellow commuters needn’t know you’re secretly a massive geek!
