Schloß Schönbrunn - Dísztermek a nemesi szinten

A mai kastély helyén már a XVII. században egy Habsburg-díszkastély állt, amelyet azonban 1683-ban, a török megszállás idején leromboltak. Az oszmán seregek felett aratott gyõzelem után I. Lipót császár az osztrák származású barokk építészmestert, Fischer von Erlach-ot bízta meg egy vadászkastély építésével. Fél évszázaddal késõbb Mária Terézia udvari építészével, Nicolaus Pacassival építtette át a kastélyt rokokó stílusú nyári rezidenciává, és udvartartásával együtt, amely nem kevesebb mint 1500 fõt számlált, itt töltötte a nyári hónapokat. A császári család maga is részt vett a helyiségek kialakításában, amelynek köszönhetõen a kastély mind a mai napig élettel teli maradt és egyedülálló bepillantást enged a Habsburg-család mindennapjaiba. Mária Teréziát követõen más családtagok is meghatározó nyomokat hagytak a kastélyban, mindenekelõtt az ükunoka Ferenc József császár, aki itt született és 68 évig tartó uralkodása után itt is halt meg 1916-ban. Amennyiben idõközben felért az elsõ emeletre, kérjük forduljon jobbra és menjen az úgynevezett Halszálkás szobába. A bal oldalon található ablakon kinézve a császári udvarra látni, amely a Gyermekmúzeumhoz tartozik. Ebben a részlegben a látogatók sok mindent megtudhatnak a császári udvar mindennapjairól, és néhány dolgot ki is próbálhatnak. A nyitott ajtókon keresztül a Szárnysegéd-szobába lehet bepillantani. A szárnysegéd fõ feladata az volt, hogy azonnal eljuttassa a császárhoz a katonai híreket. Ennek ismeretében érthetõ, hogy közvetlenül az uralkodó közelében került elszállásolásra.
