This podcast was developed as part of an elementary-level Clark County School District Teaching American History Grant. The three-year grant will fund six modules per year with each module focusing on a different era of American history and a different pedagogical theme. This podcast focuses on the the Exploration: From Lewis and Clark to the Gold Rush and Children's Literature. Participants in the grant are third, fourth, and fifth grade teachers in Clark County (the greater Las Vegas area), Nevada. Teaching scholars include Drs. Michael Green and Deanna Beachley of the College of Southern Nevada and Dr. Christy Keeler of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. As part of this five week module, teachers meet on campus on two occasions and the remainder of their work is completed online. The culminating activity for this module is the development of teaching resources to accompany children's books on U.S. Exploration during the 1800s. Participants will utilize pre-selected children's chapter books appropriate for intermediate-level students for their final project.

The Center for High Impact Philanthropy was established in spring 2006 by alumni of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, who were frustrated by the difficulty of measuring and maximizing the impact of their charitable gifts. Penn is an ideal setting for such a resource center.
The School of Social Policy & Practice, where the Center is housed, is a leader in research and education related to the pursuit of social justice and progress. In addition, Penn is home to renowned programs in areas such as law, medicine, business, nursing, education, science, engineering, and ethics, all of which are important sources of information and expertise for the Center. However, the Center reaches beyond Penn to engage nonprofits/NGOs, philanthropists, foundations, policy and research centers, and universities around the world working towards more effective philanthropy.

Undergraduate Voices is a podcast project by students in Professor Suzanne Holland's bioethics class in the fall of 2009. The podcasts in this series represent the research and thinking of undergraduates studying bioethics at the eight of the debates about how to reform the American health care system. While nearly everyone, it seems, has been asked to weigh in on what to do about health care reform—from tea party participants to pundits and politicians, no one seems to have asked college students for their opinions.
These podcasts represent the best thinking from teams of Colgate University students on issues they care about – issues they think you ought to care about, too, as we try and figure out, collectively, how best to cover the great mosaic of people, and the great mosaic of problems, that make up these United States. We invite you to listen, to reflect, and perhaps even to take action if you are so moved.
Special thanks to Rebekah Presson Moseby, Ray NArdelli, Rich Grant and Sarah Kunze.
