Wrapped in Tradition is a traveling exhibit organized by Chihuly Studio of Seattle, Washington and will be on display through Aug. 18, 2007 in the Thomas E. and Emilyne Weed Anding Traveling Exhibit Gallery at the Mayborn Museum Complex in Waco, Texas. The exhibition features more than 70 American Indian trade blankets, along with 15 glass "Blanket Cylinders" by Dale Chihuly. The blankets are part of the private collection of Chihuly, who was first inspired by Navajo handmade textiles, and then began to collect machine-produced blankets made for European-American Indian trade. Today, Chihuly is known as a pioneer of American Studio Glass as well as for being a contemporary artist who creates monumental glass sculpture and environments. This podcast provides added insight into various aspects of the Wrapped in Tradition Exhibition. Don't miss your chance to experience this unique combination of contemporary glass art and rich cultural history.

The London Sinfonietta is one of the world’s elite contemporary music ensembles with a reputation built on the virtuosity of its performances and ambitious programming. It is committed to placing new music at the heart of contemporary culture and pushing boundaries; the ensemble regularly undertakes projects with choreographers, video artists, film-makers and collaborations with electronica artists, jazz and folk musicians.
The creation of new music has been at the core of the London Sinfonietta’s work since its foundation in 1968. It has commissioned or premiered over 200 works, ranging from Luciano Berio, Harrison Birtwistle and Steve Reich to the emerging composers involved in its Blue Touch Paper project – including Tansy Davies, Larry Goves and Anna Meredith – an innovative initiative which gives the opportunity to take risks and develop ideas without the pressure of a public performance. The 2009-10 season will see the London Sinfonietta perform world premieres of new works by Harrison Birtwistle, Alexander Nowak, Claudia Molitor, Richard Barrett and Dai Fujikura, as well as UK premieres of pieces by John Adams, Paul Dresher, Wolfgang Rihm and Richard Ayres.
London Sinfonietta concert performances are increasingly being conceived as the centrepiece of a cluster of related projects and events. It was one of the first UK orchestras to explore the creative space where artistic and educational experiences meet and continues to break new ground in this field. The innovation and creativity experienced on the concert platform is reflected in the ensemble’s participation and interaction programme, which gives young artists - in sound design, animation and textiles, as well as music - the opportunity to work with the ensemble in a creative environment.

Having been president of Philadelphia University over a year now — my official inauguration was October 5, 2008 — I am even more excited about the innovative academic approach Philadelphia University offers our students. My years of experience in entrepreneurship, global management and higher education have brought me to this new chapter in the history of Philadelphia University that we will write together. I am excited to be part of such an engaging academic community. Students, faculty, and staff thrive here. The combination of pioneering ideas and a strong work ethic make this University one that is unique. Whatever you are looking for, whether it is design & media, business, science and health, architecture, engineering & textiles, or liberal arts, you will find it at Philadelphia University. I am also convinced that you will find even more than you expect, including an energy and intellectual curiosity that are evident in the podcasts collected here on this site. Enjoy!

Jan’s interest in art started in her childhood at the family dinner table where ethnic dishes were served up with side discussions of the culture, textiles and art from around the world. She remembers delicious curry dishes, her mother’s beautiful sari, and a home filled with exotic smells, artifacts and furniture. These early influences are the building blocks for her kimono inspired prints and organic ceramic vessels
